π½οΈ About A Un Passo Dal Mare
Just a short drive from Vasto, A Un Passo Dal Mare lives up to its name – “one step from the sea” – offering that perfect blend of coastal charm and authentic Abruzzese cuisine that makes this region so special. Tucked away in Casalbordino, this restaurant has quietly built a reputation among locals and savvy travelers who appreciate fresh seafood and genuine Italian hospitality without the tourist markup.
The menu here celebrates the Adriatic’s daily catch alongside traditional inland specialties that showcase Abruzzo’s culinary heritage. Their crudo di ricciola is absolutely divine – paper-thin slices of amberjack that practically melt on your tongue, dressed simply with local olive oil and sea salt. The kitchen also excels at pasta dishes, particularly their linguine ai ricci di mare when sea urchin is in season, and their brodetto, a fisherman’s stew that varies based on whatever the boats brought in that morning.
The atmosphere strikes that perfect Italian balance between refined and relaxed. The dining room feels like an elegant family home, with warm lighting and tasteful nautical touches that never veer into kitschy territory. During warmer months, try to snag a table on their covered terrace where you can actually catch glimpses of the sea while enjoying your meal – it’s especially magical during sunset hours.
For visitors staying in Vasto, this place is worth the 15-minute drive for a special dinner out. The service is attentive without being fussy, and the wine list features some excellent local Montepulciano d’Abruzzo selections that pair beautifully with their seafood. It’s the kind of place where you’ll want to linger over that last glass of wine, savoring both the food and the genuine warmth of Abruzzese hospitality.
